The Hands-On Cobblestone Workshop was held on June 3, 2006 at the Cobblestone Museum. Participants came from Spencerport, Palmyra, Stanley, Clifton Springs, Auburn and Albion, NY. The attendees learned the proper formula and mixing techniques for soft lime mortar. They practiced mortar application and patterns in wooden boxes provided for them. Some, under the supervision of the mason Mike Jessmer, completed minimal repairs on the back wall of the church. They left with a more thorough knowledge of repair techniques and a handout of helpful hints.
Some of the comments from participants on the evaluation sheets included: "It was very helpful to learn by doing." "It was exactly the kind of information we needed!" "Very helpful, well worth the time and cost." The only negative was "Add more sunshine."
